Description

Captured ship: Maria Casimira Queen of Poland of Danzig (master Albert Andersen).

History: a Danzig merchant ship (160 lasts) bound from Dunkirk to Danzig, in ballast; taken on 23 July / 2 August 1694 off Texel by HMS Portland (William Smith commanding), and brought into the Downs.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 10:

  • [CP 1]: one examination;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Danzig;
  • [CP 3-CP 4]: inventory, commission of appraisement;
  • [CP 5-CP 10]: legal proceedings sent in from Danzig, including many examinations, affidavit, interrogatories, substitution, allegation, commission.

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 1 August 1694].
