Description

Captured ship: Maria and Anna of Amsterdam (master Cornelis de Boodt).

History: a Dutch merchant ship (150 tons) bound from Tenerife to Amsterdam, laden with wine, brandy and logwood; taken during March 1692 by the privateer Guernsey Sloop (John Stephens commanding), perhaps retaken from the French privateer Trinité, and brought into Guernsey.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 4:

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: two sets of claims to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Amsterdam;
  • [CP 3-CP 4]: inventory, commission of appraisement;
  • [CP 5]: docket for the ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 14, bills of lading, ship's passes, accounts, a set of 'French seals found upon the hatches' of the ship, certificate, two papers from the French privateer Trinité, a copy letter of marque and a sailing journal.

[Decision: ship and cargo condemned, 11 April 1692].
