Description

Captured ship: Maria of Konigsberg (master Olaus Nielsen [Knab]) [first capture].

History: a Swedish or Norwegian merchant ship (100 lasts) bound from Bergen to St Malo, laden with deal boards, train oil and roe; taken on 5/15 October 1692 by the privateer John and Francis (Robert Langbe commanding), and brought into Rye.

Documents:-

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 5:

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: three examinations, interrogatories, commission;
  • [CP 4]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Bergen;
  • [CP 5]: docket for the ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 39:

  • SP 1-SP 21: general ship's papers, including ship's passes, receipts, accounts contracts, certificates;
  • SP 22-SP 39: letters to members of the crew.

[Decision: ship and cargo condemned, 8 December 1692].
