Description

Captured ship: Margaret of Ipswich (master Samuel Smith).

History: an English merchant ship (250 tons) bound from Newcastle upon Tyne to London, laden with coals; taken first on 24 April / 3 May 1692 by a French privateer, retaken on 27 April / 6 May 1692 at by HMS Mermaid ([Thomas Sherman] commanding), and brought into Harwich.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 5:

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: two examinations, in lieu of examinations;
  • [CP 3]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in London and Ipswich;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: commission of appraisement, inventory.

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 6 May 1692].
