Description

Captured ship: Margareta or Margaret of Ostend (master Jan Roelincx).

History: a Spanish Netherlands merchant ship (50 tons) bound from Nantes to Ostend, laden with wine and brandy; taken on 22 July / 1 August 1691 off Belle Isle by the privateers Elizabeth and Catherine (William Young commanding) and Postillion (Henry Martin commanding), and brought into Dover.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 7:

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: interrogatories, seven examinations, commission;
  • [CP 4]: allegation;
  • [CP 5-CP 6]: commission of appraisement, inventory;
  • [CP 7]: docket for the ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 4, including a letter of marque.

[Decision: ship and cargo condemned, 20 August 1691].
