Description

Captured ship: Margaret of Kirkcaldy (master John Ramsay).

History: a Scottish merchant ship (40 tons) bound from Kirkcaldy, Scotland to Danzig, laden with salt and lambskins; taken on 24 July / 3 August 1693 off the Isle of May by a French privateer, retaken on 25 July / 4 August off the same island by HMS Centurion (John Bridges commanding), and brought into Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 7:

  • [CP 1]: one examination;
  • [CP 2-CP 4]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Kirkcaldy, attestation as to the ship's voyage and capture, certificate as to the same;
  • [CP 5]: one examination;
  • [CP 6-CP 7]: inventory, commission of appraisement.

[Decision: restored, paying salvage, 7 September 1693].
