Description

Captured ship: St Margaret or Santa Margareta of Hamburg (master Basilius Moller).

History: a Hamburg merchant ship (130 lasts, 13 men) bound from Hamburg to Cadiz, laden with pipestaves, baulks, deal boards, piece goods, nails and linen; taken on 30 November / 1 December 1692 off the Downs by HMS Lenox (John Mundy commanding), and brought into Sheerness.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP :

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: two sets interrogatories, one examination;
  • [CP 4-CP 8]: four claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Hamburg, Malaga and Cadiz, certificate;
  • [CP 9-CP 12]: three attestations sent in from Hamburg, one with a translation;
  • [CP 13]: abstracts and translations of the 92 ship's papers [all the papers were restored].

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 27 January 1693].
