Description

Captured ship: St Marguerite or St Margaret or Santa Margareta of Marseilles (master Francisco Mometo or Manito).

History: a French or Genoese ship (450 tons, 4 guns, 126 men, some were perhaps passengers) bound from Le Havre to La Rochelle and then to Lisbon or Genoa, in ballast; taken on 5/15 July 1693 off Île-de-Batz by HMS Mary (John Jennings commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 3:

  • [CP 1]: interrogatories, three examinations;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Genoa;
  • [CP 3]: docket for the ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 7, bill of health, inventory, certificate, bills of health, one with an etching depicting Alicante, ship's pass, bill of lading issued in Barcelona.

[Decision: ship and cargo condemned, 3 August 1693].
