Description

Captured ship: Margareta or Margaret of Altona (master Heinrich or Henry Mohrman).

History: a Danish merchant ship (100 tons) bound from Glückstadt to Porto, laden with pipestaves, hemp and wheat; taken on 30 March / 9 April 1691 off the Downs by HMS Monmouth (Thomas Reins commanding), and brought into the Downs.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 3:

  • [CP 1]: interrogatories, three examinations;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of Danish merchants;
  • [CP 3]: abstracts and translations of the 2 ship's papers [all these papers were restored].

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 20 April 1691].
