Description

Captured ship: Margaret of Glasgow (master Robert Galbraith).

History: a Scottish ship (25 tons), bound from St Martin de Ré to Glasgow, Scotland, laden with wine and prunes; taken during February 1696 by HMS Harwich (Andrew Douglas commanding).

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 7:

  • [CP 1]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Glasgow and Greenock;
  • [CP 2-CP 3]: inventory, commission of appraisement;
  • [CP 4-CP 6]: three commercial letters sent from the owners in Glasgow to Thomas Foulis in London;
  • [CP 7]: docket for the ship's paper;
  • [CP 8]: attestation as to papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 14, ship's passes, customs papers, accounts, letters to the captain from Glasgow, La Rochelle and St Martin de Ré, invoices, bill of sale, registry extract.
