Description

Captured ship: Juffrouw Margareta or Madam Margareta of Pärnu (master Lameu or Lambert Jansen).

History: a Swedish ship (160 tons), bound from St Martin to Pärnu, Swedish Livonia, laden with salt; taken on 8/18 August 1697 off Ushant by HMS Victory (Edward Whitaker commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 5:

  • [CP 1]: three examinations;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Pärnu;
  • [CP 3]: attestation sent in from Pärnu;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: two wrappers for ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 8 [the rest of the papers were restored].
