Description

Captured ship: Juffrouw Anna Catherina or Madam Anna of Stockholm (master Francis Bolt). 1697

History: a Swedish ship (120 tons), bound from La Rochelle to Stockholm, laden with wine, brandy, paper, indigo, tobacco and vinegar; taken on 4/14 July 1697 off Plymouth by HMS Content (Hovenden Walker commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 9:

  • [CP 1]: three examinations;
  • [CP 2-CP 4]: three sets of claims to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Copenhagen, Helsingør (Elsinore) and Stockholm;
  • [CP 5-CP 7]: attestations and an allegation and claim sent in from Helsingør and Stockholm;
  • [CP 8]: abstracts and translations of the 32 ship's papers [some of these papers were perhaps restored];
  • [CP 9]: docket for the ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 4, 6-11, 13-19, 32, all bills of lading with one set of accounts.
