Captured ship: Delaval Galley of London (master Jonas Cork).
History: an English privateer bound from the River Thames on a cruise during July 1697; the ship was stopped before leaving the Thames by the yacht William and Mary (William Sanderson commanding) for flying colours forbidden by proclamation and the attempted seizure led to an altercation in which Captain Cork threatened Sanderson, who fled in fear of his life. The Admiralty revoked Cork's letter of marque as a result.
