Description

Captured ship: Dauphin of St Malo (commander Giles de la Rue) formerly the Betty of Bristol.

History: a French privateer (300 tons, 28 guns, 200 men) bound from Brest on a cruise; taken on 6/16 February 1696/7 off the Scilly Isles by HMS Plymouth (John Jennings commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court papers:-

  • [CP 1]: two examinations;
  • [CP 2]: docket, still attached to the ship's papers.

Ship's paper, numbered SP 1, letter of marque.

[Decision: ship restored, 18 March 1697]
