Description

Captured ship: Danzig Merchant (master Thomas Grundy).

History: an English merchant ship (120 tons) bound from Newcastle to Lisbon laden with coal; taken around 2/12 August 1692 off the Rock of Lisbon by the French warship La Legere ([Jouannes de] Suigaraichipi commanding), and brought into Lisbon, where the English crew was put ashore and a French crew installed; retaken on 17/27 August 1692 by the privateer Cloudesley Galley (Charles Stocker commanding), and brought into Dartmouth.

  • [CP 4-CP 5]: attestations as to the ownership of the ship and cargo, including by the widow Elizabeth Grundy following the death of the master (her husband);
  • [CP 6-CP 8]: commission of appraisement, inventory, docket.
