Description

Captured ship: Justice of Copenhagen (master Peter Petersen).

History: a Danish merchant ship (160 tons) bound from Bordeaux to Copenhagen, laden with wine, brandy and prunes; taken on 21/31 July 1691 off 'Surlinges' [the Sorlings, i.e. the Isles of Scilly] by HMS Dorsetshire (James Wishart commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 4:

  • [CP 1]: five examinations;
  • [CP 2]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Copenhagen;
  • [CP 3-CP 4]: attestation sent in from Copenhagen, with translation.

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, 26 August 1697].
