Description

Captured ship: St Jacob of Stockholm (master Henrick Kuees).

History: a Swedish merchant ship (120 tons) bound from Bordeaux to Stockholm, laden with wine and molasses; taken on 20/30 July 1697 off Ushant by HMS Henrietta (John Robinson commanding) part of Admiral Rooke's squadron, and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 4:

  • [CP 1]: three examinations;
  • [CP 2]: abstracts and translations of the two bundles of ship's papers;
  • [CP 3-CP 4]: dockets for the two bundles of ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers in two bundles numbered SP A5-SP A11 and SP B1-SP B 3:

  • SP A 5-SP A 11: customs paper, bills of lading;
  • SP B1-SP B3: letters from Hans Schlenther at Bordeaux.

[Decision: ship restored, cargo condemned 15 September 1697; appealed].
