Captured ship: Increase of Youghal or Bristol (master James Peare or Paire).
History: an English or Irish merchant ship (100 tons, 12 men) bound from Youghal, Ireland to Virginia, laden with beef and butter; taken on 28 November / 8 December 1690 off Cape Clear by the French privateer Surprenant (Louis Fontaine commanding), retaken on 2/12 December 1690 off 'the Sorlingiers' [Isles of Scilly] by HMS Portsmouth (Francis Wyvell commanding), and brought into Plymouth.
