Description

Captured ship: St Guillaume or St William of Dunkirk (commander Jean de Poter).

History: a French privateer (40 tons, 10 guns) bound from Bordeaux to Dunkirk; taken on 26 February / 8 March 1696/7 off Orkney by HMS Severn (Richard White commanding), and brought into Torbay.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 2:

  • [CP 1]: one examination;
  • [CP 2]: docket for the ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1, letter of marque.

[Decision: ship condemned, 24 March 1696/7].
