Description

Captured ship: Golden Rose of Hamburg (master Nicholas Brock).

History: a Hamburg ship (100 tons), bound from Bordeaux to Hamburg, laden with wine and brandy; taken on 13/23 July 1689 off Portland by HMS Portsmouth (George St Lo commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 15:

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: interrogatories, two examinations;
  • [CP 3]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Hamburg;
  • [CP 4-CP 7]: two allegations, with interrogatories;
  • [CP 8-CP 15]: four attestations sent in from Hamburg, with translations.
