Description

Captured ship: La Flateuse or Flatterer of St Malo (master Richard Poitdevin).

History: a French privateer (25 tons, 6 guns, 38 men) bound from St Malo on a cruise; taken on 26 May / 5 June 1697 by HMS Swan (Thomas Kenney commanding) and brought into Bideford.

Documents:-

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 2:

  • [CP 1]: three examinations;
  • [CP 2]: docket, still attached to the ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 19, ship's passes, letters, receipts or invoices, letter of marque, muster roll, blank printed notebook for recording armaments.

[Decision: ship condemned, 10 June 1697].
