Description

Captured ship: Flanders Merchant of Exeter (master Gideon Andrews).

History: an English merchant ship (50 tons) bound from Plymouth to Newfoundland, laden with hats, shoes, stockings, coats, waistcoats, lycloth and kersies; taken [by the French?], retaken during 1692 by HMS Deptford (William Carr commanding) and brought into Torbay.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 9:

  • [CP 1]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Exeter;
  • [CP 2-CP 9]: legal proceedings taken on commission at Exeter, including examinations, special interrogatories, allegation, bill of lading, charterparty, accounts, commission.

[Decision: ship and cargo restored, paying salvage, 13 April 1693].
