Description

Captured ship: Fir Tree (master John West).

History: an English merchant ship (fly boat) bound from New England to a port in England, laden with masts, planks and timber; taken by the French privateer Francois, retaken on 8/18 January 1694/5 in the English Channel by HMS Northumberland (David Lambert commanding), and brought into an English port.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 7:

  • [CP 1]: interrogatories;
  • [CP 3]: claims to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in London;
  • [CP 4-CP 5]: inventory, commission of appraisement.
  • [CP 6]: attestation relating to salvage to be paid;
  • [CP 7]: docket, still attached to the ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1, letter of marque from the Francois.

[Decision: restored, paying salvage].
