Description

Captured ship: Fides of Kristiansand (master Pieter Hansen).

History: a Danish Norwegian merchant ship (50 tons) bound from Bordeaux to Kristiansand, laden with wine and brandy; taken during September 1691 by the privateers Elizabeth and Catherine (William Young commanding) and Postillion (Henry Martin commanding) and brought into the Downs.

Court Papers numbered CP 1-CP 10:

  • [CP 1-CP 3]: interrogatories, three examinations, commission;
  • [CP 4]: allegation;
  • [CP 5]: claim to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in Kristiansand;
  • [CP 6-CP 7]: inventory, commission of appraisement;
  • [CP 8]: attestation relating to the ship's capture;
  • [CP 9-CP 10]: docket, still attached to the ship's papers, note about SP 7.

Ships Papers numbered SP 1-SP 7, receipts, acccounts, bill of lading, letters, ship's pass.
