Description

Folios 201-218. A letter from W Knox to Sir Stanier Porten, dated at Whitehall [Middlesex] concerning the capture of the Spanish [Portuguese] corvette 'La Sangrada Familia', Jose [Josef] [Joseph] de Lemos Vidall, commander, circa 20 September 1780 near Cape St Vincent, by the 'Baffler' [?'Buffalo'] cutter of Lancaster [Lancashire]. It was sailing from Cadiz [Spain] for Carill [Galicia], near Santiago de [Compostela] Galicia. Chevalier Pinto has registered a complaint. Case heard at the Court of Vice Admiralty, Barbados, by Nathaniel Weekes. Enclosing: Folio 202. A letter from James Cunningham, governor of Barbados, to Lord George Germain, dated at Barbados, enclosing copies of documents. Folio 203-217. Folio 203. Copy of a libel and allegation exhibited in the Court of Vice Admiral of Barbados by merchants: Edward Whiteside; Robert Whiteside; Richard Kendall, master; William Hest; Edward Salisbury; Richard Salisbury; and John Gardener of Lancaster. Thomas Workman, register [?registrar] of the court. Folio 204-206. Copy of affidavit of Hugh Jackman, proctor, dated 30 October 1780, and attested by Wm [William] Moore. Folio 206. Examination of Thomas Nunns, prize master, dated 28 October 1780. Folio 207. Examination of de Lemos Vidall, dated on 28 October 1780. Folio 208. Copy of a passport for de Lemenos and Jose dez Ruis, signed by Martinho de Mallo e Castro, minister and secretary of overseas trade, dated on 26 November 1779, and Fransisco de Arsiz Virda. Folio 209. Certificate mentioning: Joaquin Jose Abrece, writer in the port of Bellem [?Belém, Brazil]; and sailors: Manoel Martins; Luis Antonio Gaspar; Manoel Breta; Diego ?Theuvaroz; Jose Joaquin Cabello; Antonio Rizalhiero; and Marzo Barillo ?Oardore, dated at Belem on 20 November 1779.
