Folios 151-152. A letter from the board of Excise to Viscount Stormont, dated at Excise Office, London, concerning trials of excise officers killing smugglers. Benjamin Beves is to be tried for murdering John Jenkins, and it is requested that a warrant be drawn up which would respite the accsued in case of conviction. Joseph Williams, supervisor of excise in Truro, Cornwall, and John Smith have been convicted of manslaughter of Richard Sholt, alias [Richard] Shoal, and they are themselves due to stand trial for murder at Bodmin, Cornwall.
