Folio 138. A letter from J W Hammond to Sir Stanier Porten, dated at Dover [Kent]. The embargo has stopped the 'Princess ?Steringburg', Leonard Patison master, with the Countess Clermont and Mr Lloyd aboard. Neutral vessels from Dover cannot enter Calais [France] and are liable to seizure and confiscation, according to Dr Gim, who has recently arrived from there with Captain John Sharp. Mr Walpole was landed at Calais, not Ostend. Advises that a Frenchman and his wife, at New Town near Sandgate [Kent] Castle, should be watched. Mr Marrce has been absent form Sandgate.
