Folio 137. A memorial from Captain A [Alexander] Jardine of the Royal Artillery petitioning for £500 in consideration of his expenses incurred travelling 7,000 miles in Spain and Portugal [as a spy]. Details his intelligence gathering in Spain, at the behest of Mr Chamier, mentioning Lisbon [Portugal], Gibraltar, Madrid, and Carunna [La Caruña]; the stopping of his £300 allowance in November 1779; his indebtedness, illness and danger of imprisonment; his father Sir Alexander Jardine in St Omer [France] and his family in Flanders sent from Flanders to Ferrol.
