Folio 94. Copy of a certificate from Peter Bachop, late master of the armed schooner 'St John', lieutenant William Grant commander, concerning the humanitarian assistance rendered him, when a prisoner, by Henry Laurens. On 11 July 1776, Bachop was captured by the Americans at the River St Mary [?St Marys River] and transferred, via Georgia, to prison at Charles Town [?Charleston, South Carolina], where he was detained with Captain McNicoll and Lieutenant Fraser of the Royal Highland Emigrants. Laurens later procured his parole to go to St Augustin's [?St Augustine, Florida]. The President Governor [John] Rutledge rendered no assistance.
