Folios 92-93. Copy of a certificate from Captain Lachlan Mackintosh, late commander of the Fort Prince George in the country of the Cherokee Indians, and now of Richmond, Surrey, concerning a search made of his house by [Governor] Henry Laurens, pretending to search for stamped paper, but in reality to inflict an insult on account of Mackintosh's attachment to his Majesty's government. Laurens has returned to South Carolina, where he is elected chairman of the provincial Congress. Describes a solemn declaration made by Laurens, in favour of the 'American independence rebels', in the presence of Captain Nicolls, commander of a packet boat. Mentions Loyalists settling their property interests in South Carolina.
