Folios 48-61. Documents concerning distemper [rinderpest] in horned cattle in the Isle of Thanet, Kent. Folio 48 and 52. A letter from John Dilnot, dated at Sandwich [Kent], reporting the outbreak. Adds that bullocks have been relocated to Ash [Kent], and that one is now reported ill. Folio 49. Copy of an affidavit of Wm [William] Mockett, of St John the Baptist in Thanet, Kent, bailiff for Mrs Mary Cowell. Folio 50. Copy of an affidavit of George Bushell, yeoman of Minster in Thanet [Kent], concerning his purchase of bullocks from Mary Cowell, widow. Folio 51. Copy of an affidavit of Richard Clowley, gardener, of St John the baptist, describing symptoms of his cows which died. Folio 53-54. Copy of a letter, dated at St James's [Middlesex], replying to Dilnot and commending his actions. Folio 55-56. Copy of a further letter replying to Dilnot, dated at St James's [Middlesex], and asking him to circulate an order in council. Folio 57 and 59. Copy of a letter from Jos [Joseph] Stevens, acting in the secretary's absence, to William Frazer, dated at the Excise Office. Enclosing: Folio 58: A letter from Wm [William] Lamb to the Commissioner of Excise, London, advising that 40 cattle have died. Folio 60-61. A letter from Dilnot, dated at Sandwich, promising to circulate Orders in Council.
