Description

Captured ship: St Clara of Nieuwpoort (master Peter Hendricksen).

History: a Flemish (Spanish Netherlands) merchant ship (54 tons), bound from Nantes to Ostend, laden with wine and brandy; taken on 29 June 1689 off Brittany by the Dutch warship Phoenix (Cornelis van Brakel commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

  • [CP 1-CP 2]: interrogatories, two examinations;
  • [CP 3-CP 4]: two claims to the ship and cargo on behalf of merchants in [Ostend?];
  • [CP 5]: abstracts and translations of the 13 ship's papers [these papers were probably restored].
