Description

Folio 214. Copy of a letter dated at St James's, advising that letters of marque and reprisal are to be issued against French ships, in retaliation for orders from the French King to seize and destroy British ships. Sent to: the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland; Lieutenant Governor of Jersey; Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey; Baron Grantham [ambassador to Spain]; Mr Braun; Sir Horace Mann [ambassador to Florence]; Sir William Hamilton [ambassador to Naples]; Mr [John] Strange [ambassador to Venice]; the Right Honourable General Elliott; Honourable Lieutenant General Murray; Mr Poyntz; and consuls Collet, Udny, Richie, Sarjent, Bomeester, Traill, Richardson, and Birbeck.
