Folios 206-209. Copy of a letter from Viscount Weymouth, dated at St James's [Middlesex] concerning the aggression of the French off Brest on 17 June 1778. Sent to: Sir Horace Mann [ambassador to Florence] ; Sir Wm [William] Hamilton [ambassador to Naples]; Mr [John] Strange [ambassador to Venice]; Mr Poyntz; the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland; Lieutenant Governor of Jersey; Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey; Mr [Robert] Walpole [envoy to Portugal]. To Lord Granthan [ambassadord to Spain] is sent an additional paragraph concerning Weymouth's meeting with Monsieur Escarans. Folio 208. A further letter from Weymouth to the above, enclosing a copy of the '[London] Gazette', excluding the Lord Lieutenant and lieutenant governors. Folio 209. Weymouth's letter to: Sir Robert Ainslie [ambassador to the Ottoman Empire]; Honourable Mr Walpole; Sir John Hort [consul general, Lisbon]; Lieutenant General Murray; Mr Braun. And to the following consuls: Udny; Collet; Birkbeck; Hardy; Beawes; Lidderdale; Wilkie; Whitehead; Katenkamp; Munro; Gregory; and Marsh.
