Folios 88-89. Copy of a letter from S [Stanier] Porten to the Honourable Mr [Robert] Walpole [envoy to Portugal] concerning the freeing of 200 Portuguese slaves held in Algiers [Barbary] which is sought by the 'court of portugal or the Fathers of the Redemption' at Lisbon [Portugal]. The group proposes awarding a commission to one of the consuls to negotiate with the captors, and according to Sir Edward Bayntun, father of the British consul Edward Bayntun, his son wants the business. The Dutch consul is also interest.
