Folio 3: Schedule of reports of proceedings of the Vice Admiral commanding the Eastern Mediterranaean Squadron, 12 November to 30 December 1916.

Folios 4-7: blank. Folios 8-265: 12 November to 2 December 1916 (papers M 011443/16, M 011089/16 and N 1819/16).

Folio 9: Cover sheet for paper N1819/1916.

Folios 10-30: Covering letter (paper No 2136/120.E) dated 14 December 1916 and report of operations for 12 November to 2 December 1916 by Vice Admiral Cecil Fiennes Thursby on HMS Lord Nelson with reports of Detached Squadrons as follows: First Detached Squadron (Crete and the Anatolian Coast between Fourni Islands and Rhodes), Second Detached Squadron (Dardanelles area), Third Detached Squadron (Salonika area), Fourth Detached Squadron (Smyrna, Khios and Samos area), Fifth Detached Squadron (Mykoni-Salonika transport route and East Coast of Greece), Sixth Detached Squadron (Bulgarian coast). Mention of flight to Roumania by Flight Lieutenants C.E. Brisley and R.Y. Bush and Flight Sub-Lieutenants F.S. Mills and F.E.P. Barrington (folio 12); report of a British subject from Smyrna, Mr Giraud, carrying dispatches from the Vali of Smyrna to the British Minister in Athens (folio 15); Flight Sub-Lieutenant A.F. Whetnall failing to return from reconnaissance of Buk (folios 18 and 144); Missing pilots and observers named as Temporary Flight Lieutenant E.J. Cooper, Temporary Flight Sub-Lieutenant C.W. Greig, Lieutenant Lord Torrington and Sub-Lieutenant Rowland W. Frazier (folios 19 and 144). Skipper Philip William Page and Petty Officer 1st Class Alfred Daw RFR ON C/169, 897 of Trawler 298 submitted for favourable consideration (folios 20-21).

Folios 34-36: Enclosure number 2. Report dated 28 November 1916 by Captain Francis Clifton Brown, Senior Officer, First Detached Squadron, HMS Edgar. Includes HMS Renard report of proceedings for 24 November 1916 by Commander Leveson Granville Byron Alexander Campbell, HMS Renard at anchor (folio 37) and a report of the firings carried out by the First Detached Squadron week ending 26 November 1916 (folio 38).

Folios 39-42: Enclosure number 3. Report dated 7 December 1916 by Captain Francis Clifton Brown, Senior Officer, First Detached Squadron, HMS Edgar. Includes a report by Lieutenant in Command William Ogilvy Hozier, HMS Clematis, describing the attack by HMS Clematis on 27 November 1916 of a hostile submarine (folios 43-44). Mention is made to Stoker Robert Farrell ON 164125 sighting the submarine (folio 43). Also includes, a report dated 28 November 1916 by Lieutenant Commander Frank Eyers, Royal Naval Reserve, HMS Hazel, concerning HMS Clematis’s attack of a submarine (folio 45).

Folios 89-92: Enclosure number 9. Reports of proceedings, number 20, dated 29 November 1916, by Cecil Minet Staveley, Senior Naval Officer, Salonika, HMS Endymion, Salonika, including a military summary and a report dated 27 November 1916 by Lieutenant Commander P S R Conron and Paymaster G V M Hamer, HMS Endymion, of discontented crew on MFS Ermine in regards to their victualling money pay (folio 93). Also includes a letter dated 25 November 1916 by William G Fitzgerald of the salvage steamer Sorceress regarding the salvage of SS Norseman (folio 94).

Folios 95-101: Enclosure number 10, number 62/6. Reports of proceedings dated 19 November 1916, by Frank Larken, Senior Officer, Fourth Detached Squadron, HMS Doris at Port Iero, including notes on a Mr Giraud (“a Frenchman”) claiming to carry important dispatches from the Vali of Smyrna (folio 97).
