Folios 223-228. Folios 223 and 228. Letter dated at Mr Jenkins's 8 New Inn [London] from Joseph ffowle [Fowle] to Sir Stanier Porten as to whether or not an application to the Secretaries of State for entry of a caveat against a pardon being granted to William Rooke is the proper one and he (Fowle) notified in the event of a petition being lodged. With his letter he encloses: Folios 224-225. A copy of his letter to Lord Mansfield giving his reasons for wanting to enter the caveat against William Yorke who he describes as 'a man of most profligate and abandoned character' and who he has just successfully prosecuted at Hicks's Hall for obtaining a considerable sum of money 'under a pretence of charging' Fowle 'with an attempt to commit a crime, which if committed subjects the party to the severest punishment the laws of this country can inflict'. Folios 226-227. Copy of Fowle's letter to the Secretaries of State enclosing a copy of the preceding letter to Lord Mansfield.
