Folios 92-118. A letter from [Justice] D [David] Wilmot to the Earl of Rochford, dated at Bethnal Green [Middlesex]. Concerns the mob murder of Daniel Clarke on 16 April 1771, who had been a witness against [those hung, in December 1769] 'for cutting silk in the looms at Spitalfields [London]. Contains graphic details of the lynching. Folio 94-95. Wilmot to Rochford, dated at Bethnal Green. Mentions a servant of the brewer, Thornton, witnessing to events in White Lyon Street, Bishopsgate [London]. Folio 95-96. An anonymous letter to Rochford in Cleveland Row [Middlesex], dated at Spitalfields, accusing Robert Campbell, who frequents the Red Cross in Hare Street [Bethnal Green], and mentioning Valline and Doyle. Folio 97-98. Wilmot to Rochford. Defends the justices' conduct, naming Camper and Digby; accuses master weavers, except Mr Chovet, for not cooperating; and report witnesses 'Poor and his wife' are in Ireland. Folio 99-100. Chas [Charles] Johnson to Rochford in Berkley Square [Middlesex], dated at Shoreditch. Complains that no justice resides in the 'manufacturing parish' of Spitalfields, Whitechapel [Middlesex] and Shoreditch. Folio 101-102. Wilmot to Rochford. Advises that the identity of Charles Johnson cannot be determined. Encloses a copy of a letter from G__M__nf__d who seeks stronger immunity. Folio 103-104. Wilmot to Rochford naming Mrs Chambers as a witness. Folio 105-106. Information of Robert Baldwin, soldier, with eyewitness account of the murder. Mentions: William Eastman; the 'Sign of the Hare', Hare Street, Bethnal Green; and Mr Mosley's brew house. Witnessed by Jno [John] Skutt. Folio 107-108. Wilmot to Rochford concerning a threat to Wilmot's life. Folio 109-110. The information of labourer James Morgan of Catharine [Catherine] Wheel Alley, St Mary, Whitechapel, Middlesex. William Box alias [William] Suard alias [William] Boit planned to provide a false alibi to Campbell, who is a prisoner in Newgate. Folio 111-112. Wilmot to Rochford. Reporting the arrest of Henry Stroud alias [Henry] Stoud, gardener. Folio 113-114. Wilmot to Rochford. Reports the conviction and imminent execution of Campbell and Stroud, and an attempt to murder the witness Morgen leaving the Old Bailey, prevented only by Elliot's intervention. Folio 115-116. Draft of letter to the Secretary at War seeking a guard for the execution of Campbell and Stroud in Spitalfields and at the 'Salmon and Ball' and the 'Sign of the Three Colts' in Bethnal Green. Folio 117-118. Wilmot to Rochford, dated on 8 July, reporting the execution. Mentions justices Camper and Spagg, and Sir David Lindsey.
