Folios 217-218. Letter dated at Hatton Garden [London] from John Hawkins [Chairman of the Middlesex Quarter Sessions] to [Lord Rochford] explaining the reason for his request for the government's protection in his office against any attempt to remove in favour of Sir John Fielding. He says that if Sir Joh 'should deny that any such design has been entertained, proof is at hand that Mr Justice Sherwood declared last week that it was canvassed in Bow Street by certain justices in his presence who said they should be able to carry their point'.
