Folio 209. Letter dated at Dover Street [London] from [Percy Wyndham] Earl of Thomond to [?Lord Rochford] that John Shute and Robert Smith lieutenants in the Somersetshire Militia wish to resign their commissions. He regrets he is unable to recommend anyone to succeed them at present 'as the spirit of entering into the Militia service daily abates in those parts'. He recommends Mr James Sparrow of Bourton and Mr Edmund Trowbridge Halliday to be deputy lieutenants and says they are also ready to assist the militia. Endorsed 'let this be answered'.
