Folio 202. Draft circular letter [?from Lord Rochford] that although James Sampson through some indiscretion in his conduct incurred the displeasure of the Emperor and could no longer continue in his post as British Consul in Morocco without detriment to the King's affairs he did, at the same time, show 'such good intentions and desire of doing his duty as have induced his Majesty to consider him as not unworthy of his favour'. The writer has the King's permission to recommend Sampson 'to be placed or provided for as soon as convenient in some revenue employment either in these kingdoms or in America'.
