Folios 91-92. Letter, dated at Chelmsford, from John Tindal to Lord Rochford reporting that having prevailed 'on the deluded people to desist from any further unwarrantable proceedings', the town is now quiet and a party of 15 dragoons has just arrived whose assistance he hopes will not be required though it may be necessary for them to remain until a subscription is raised 'to relieve the poor in this neighbourhood, as provisions of all sorts are so extremely dear'. As far as he has been able to find out the local farmers do not have any 'very considerable quantity of wheat by them'. He assures Rochford that he will inform the people of the resolutions of the House of Commons as soon as possible.
