Folios 84-85. Folio 84. Letter dated at Chelmsford [Essex] from the Reverend John Tindal [Rector of Chelmsford] to Lord Rochford informing him of the large and dangerous mob assembled in and about Chelmsford and in his capacity as a magistrate applying for such immediate assistance as is thought proper. As he has received several reports that the mob intend (in case of resistance) to seize the militia firearms he has 'taken the liberty to order the storekeeper to take the locks off' for which he begs Rochford's 'excuse'. Endorsed 'Read by The King'. Folio 85. Letter dated at St James's from [Lord Rochford] to John Tindal acknowledging receipt of his letter and that he has written to Lord Barrington but sincerely hopes that without their assistance Tindal 'will be able to bring theses deluded people to reason'. He approves Tindal's actions regarding the muskets but only wishes he had secured the bayonets as well.
