Folios 40-41. Letter, dated at Wills Coffee House, Spring Gardens [London] from James Mcnamara to [?Earl of Shelburne]. 'If I had not been ill used by being made a national abuse of, as well as having been promised to be mentioned to His Majesty, on that account, as an officer who had been hard treated, I could not have presumed to address your Lordship on such a subject. I am the officer who waited on your Lordship with the Nabob of Arcott and Sir Jno [John] Lindsay's dispatches, lately from Madras, I then presumed to present your Lordship with a paper containing a sketch of long services, as well as the heads of abuse I received at Lisbon'. After detailing the events in Lisbon and saying that by this letter he 'does not mean to revive this matter but to let your Lordship into the lights of a very iniquitous affair' but he has been silent for six years and now asks for 'a word from your Lordship to His Majesty' that might be the means of him obtaining what he has so long wished for - and what he was six years ago flattered with.
