Folios 308-311. Folio 308. George Davy junior of Whitechapel, London to the King. Petition for Letters Patent for his invention 'a new method of making orchell [a purplish dye also called cudbear] from rock or stone moss of the growth of Great Britain and Ireland which answers all the purposes of dying as orchell made from foreign orchell-wood or moss'. Referral to the Attorney or Solicitor-General signed by the Earl of Egremont. Folio 309. George Davy's affidavit in support of his petition. Folios 310-311. Attorney-General's report to the King recommending that George Davy's petition be granted subject to the usual proviso for enrolment in Chancery of a written description.
