Folio 101. Letter from Hen [Henry] Potts, Secretary General Post Office, 'Yesterday his Majesty's Post Master General received a letter from Captain Watson commander of the 'Lady Augusta' West India Packet, giving an account that on the 27 May last in his passage to Barbadoes he had the misfortune to be chased by the 'Amathes' a French frigate of thirty two guns and three hundred and fifty men, who he engaged for some time but was obliged to strike to her, he had the mail on board that was made up the first Saturday in May which he according to his orders from hence threw over board in the beginning of the engagement'. Endorsed 'W I Mail (W I Packet outwards taken)'.
