Folio 216. Elinor Mathews, widow, to the King. Petition on behalf of her daughter Hariott Mathews, aged 14, sentenced at the Old Bailey to transportation for the theft of lawn [fine cloth] valued at three shillings and six pence. The petitioner states that for the past five years, following her husband's death, she and her daughter have been the only means of support for themselves and three small children. She prays for her daughter to be pardoned. The petition has been signed by Mansfld [Mansfield] Alcock (the prosecutor), Edwd [Edward] Smith, Thos [Thomas] Bishop, Bn [Benjamin] Allcock, Smyth Arthy and Geo [George] Johnson recommending Hariott as a suitable object of the King's mercy. Referral to the Recorder of London for his report. Signed by Lord Weymouth.
