Folio 202. Letter, dated at Boston [Lincolnshire] from H [Henry] B [Butler] Pacey, J [John] Calthrop and R [Richard] Fydell, Justices of the Peace within the parts of Holland Lincolnshire, to Lord Weymouth about the murder of John Woods a farmer of Swineshead [Lincolnshire] by a person or persons unknown. They suspect that as John Wood had given information about and was principal witness against Samuel Brand, now confined in Lincoln Castle, he 'was murdered by some evil disposed person' to prevent him appearing at Brand's trial. They ask that the King's pardon be promised to anyone who discloses the identity of his accomplice except the person who actually shot John Woods. They leave to Lord Weymouth's consideration what further encouragement may be thought appropriate.
