Folios 188-189. Letter from [John Montagu] Earl of Sandwich and [Francis Dashwood] Lord Le Despencer to [?Lord Weymouth] regarding Robert Hazlitt, capitally convicted for robbing the Newcastle Mail on Gateshead Common. They ask that proper orders be procured and sent to Sir Hedworth Williamson, High Sheriff of County Durham, for hanging Hazlitt's body in chains 'on some convenient spot near to the place where the robbery was committed', the judge, Mr Baron Perrott, having declined a request on behalf of the Postmasters-General, that he 'order the body of the unhappy convict, after execution to be hung in chains as had always be done in cases of mail robberies'. Dated at the General Post Office.
