This series contains more than one link to the ‘snapshots’ of this website. For some websites, the URL may change periodically. Despite this change to the URL these websites are part of the same record series as they represent the department or organisation’s presence on the web at the time. Occasionally, more than one domain URL to the same website may run in parallel creating an overlap.

The Science and Technology Facilities Council was established in 2007 by Royal Charter following the merger of the Particle Physics and Astronomy Research Council and the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils. It is an independent, executive non-departmental public body, initially to the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS), and later the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). The Council operates world-class, large scale research facilities and provides strategic advice to the UK government on their development. It also manages international research projects in support of a broad cross-section of the UK research community.
